Q:  What is the maximum capacity of The Overlook?
A:  For a seated ceremony the venue can hold up to 350 guests, for a seated reception we recommend 250 guests.

Q: What types of events is The Overlook suited for?
A: The venue has been used for ceremonies, receptions, combinations of the two, engagement photoshoots, rehearsal dinners, and even corporate events. Any gathering that might be enhanced by an unparalleled view overlooking the city (who doesn’t want that!) are a good fit!

Q: What are the best features of the venue?
A: The view of the city, our building’s unique architecture, and an immaculately kept lawn featuring landscaping that includes flowering trees. Another benefit is knowing that you are giving back to children in your community as part of the rental fee, which supports ChildSavers’ programs of providing mental health services and quality early care to children throughout Central Virginia.

Q: What are some things for potential couples to consider about the venue?
A: We rent The Overlook to share this wonderful asset with people who want to use it and to also help support ChildSavers’ programs. Our building is an active mental health clinic for children and as such, there are certain restrictions on hours it is available in order to respect our clients and their families. We are located in a residential area so we strive to be respectful to our neighbors by keeping music volume at reasonable levels. There is limited access to interior spaces so coordinating an additional space off-site for the wedding party to get ready is encouraged.

Q: Do couples have to work with preferred vendors? If so, which ones?
A: We want you to have the event of your dreams and are open to the vendors of your choosing! We have several vendors that we have enjoyed working with who we are happy to recommend.

Q: How does parking work?
A: We have 24 parking spots that are available to guests. There is additional, unmetered, unrestricted street parking near the venue as well.

Q: What event items are included?
A: The Overlook does not include any event items, however, this provides for a blank canvas to create the look of your dreams! Richmond has several fantastic rental and catering companies that can provide the chairs, tables, tents, flatware and anything else needed to bring your vision to life.

Q: Are there any restrictions such as alcohol, confetti, rice, etc.?
A: If you are serving alcohol you or your vendor must have an ABC License. To be environmentally conscious, we ask that any releases be cruelty-free, kind to animals, and biodegradable. We only allow tents to be secured with water barrels or blocks, not staked. Last but not least, The Overlook must be vacated by 10 PM.

We stumbled upon The Overlook at ChildSavers during their annual event Supper at Sunset. My husband (then fiancé) is a huge foodie and saw one of his favorite chefs was preparing the meal so he bought us tickets. We knew the food was going to be great, but we had no idea about the view or ChildSavers. As (bad) luck would have it, Scott had a work dinner and wasn’t able to make it. I went with friends instead and walked away thinking about how perfect the night had been. We’d only been engaged recently, but I did think briefly about whether or not this was a possible wedding venue. Fast forward almost a year later and we’d seen venue after venue, but none really had what we were going for. I’d always had The Overlook at ChildSavers in the back of my mind so on a whim, I shot them an email to see if they had our tentative date and they did! From there, everything fell into place. The staff was fantastic to work with! They were flexible and provided great support along the way. We were THRILLED to find such a gorgeous place with such a beautiful heart. All of our guests, from near and far, raved about it. We were so glad we could provide our most beloved with such an incredible Richmond experience while also supporting what has become one of our favorite nonprofits in Richmond. There is so much beauty at ChildSavers beyond their view. We are so fortunate to have found such a special place for our special day.
